Champion Freight Supports Kaharoa School at the 2024 Zespri AIMS Games
The 2024 Zespri AIMS Games, Australasia’s largest junior sports event for intermediate-aged children, recently concluded in Tauranga, celebrating its 21st year. With over 12,500 students from 390 schools competing in 27 sports, the event boasted more participants than the Olympics!
Kaharoa School, a small country primary school located on the northern side of Lake Rotorua, proudly represented their community. Despite having only 54 intermediate students, the school sent a dedicated mixed hockey team of 10 players to compete. Their performance was outstanding, finishing 3rd in their pool out of 50 teams, even with the eventual winners in their group. Overall, the team placed 19th—a remarkable achievement given that many of the schools they faced have over 500 students.
Champion Freight was proud to support Kaharoa School’s journey to the AIMS Games. With our contribution and the school’s fundraising efforts, all costs for the students’ participation were covered. This financial assistance not only eased the burden on families but also allowed the students to fully immerse themselves in the experience without worry.
Andrea Batchelor, Zespri’s coach, expressed her appreciation:
“The support from Champion Freight contributed to this outstanding outcome. We’re proud that, through your contribution and our fundraising, we were able to cover all the costs for the kids to attend. We were especially excited that Hamish could join us for the final game—it meant a great deal to the kids and their supporters. Your generosity has provided these children with an experience that will create lifelong memories and highlight their young sporting careers.”
Champion Freight is thrilled to have played a part in this incredible journey and looks forward to supporting more young athletes in the future!
